Third place for Rullo and Glenney to begin Queensland

A podium for Alex Rullo and Steve Glenney was the highlight on a mixed day for IntelliSpatial Fleetcare Racing, with the promising duo securing a solid haul of points through Saturday’s action.

Rullo built on his performance from last time out at home in Western Australia to get his Hyundai i20 N Rally2 on the podium despite fierce competition from those around him.

Sharing the podium with him were three-time Australian Rally Champion Harry Bates and two-time reigning European Champion Hayden Paddon.

The result adds to his increasing swag of podiums in the ever-strong Australian Rally Championship.

“It's been a good day; we managed to get the car home, which in this rally, is a bit of a tricky thing to do,” Rullo shared at the conclusion of the day’s action.

“Overall, we managed to get third for the day, which is good, and we've bagged those points away.

“The feeling in the car wasn't great, so when we had big gaps, both in front and behind us, we decided to just get to the end, so the afternoon was pretty cruisy.”

In contrast, Peter Rullo’s rally came to an end early on Saturday morning after an off-road excursion on stage one.

The car was unable to continue, but despite the damage, both crew members emerged without serious injuries thanks to the strength of the Rally2 roll cage.

Sunday’s action at Rally Queensland covers six stages, and although times are reset overnight, Heat 1 podium place getters Rullo and Glenney are confident of being near the top yet again.  

“I’m feeling good about Heat 2,” Alex said. “We've made some tweaks to the car in tonight's end of day service, which should make it a bit better and back to my driving style and how I like to drive the car. 

“We've had a good run on these Sunday stages in the past, especially on the Power Stage, so I'm looking forward to that.”

The action runs identical roads to those of 12 months ago, so knowledge is in abundance for all crews.

They do, however, remain like the rest of the Queensland stages, known for their fast and narrow nature.

Action begins tomorrow morning at the Service Park in Gympie, followed by the first stage of the day at 8:55am.
